Report: Chloroform in Casey Anthony's Car
Traces of Chloroform Allegedly Found in Trunk of Missing Toddler's Mom
By SCOTT MICHELS
Sept. 4, 2008

Traces of chloroform were reportedly found in the trunk of a car driven by the mother of missing toddler Caylee Anthony, a Florida newspaper has reported.

The Orlando Sentinel, citing unidentified sources, said that preliminary FBI tests found the chemical in Casey Anthony's car trunk. Law enforcement sources had previously told ABC News that air-sample tests from the trunk found evidence of human decomposition.
The paper also reported that there was evidence that Anthony may have searched for information about the chemical on her computer.
Chloroform, once used as an anesthetic, can cause a person to pass out. High doses can be fatal.

Calls to Casey Anthony's lawyer by ABC News weren't immediately returned. Police have been searching for Caylee since July, and the Orange County sheriff's department has said that it believes she is probably dead. Anthony has given the police changing and inaccurate information about the case, according to investigators. Police last month said hairs the same length and color as Caylee's were found in the trunk of the car, and Casey Anthony's mother, Cindy Anthony, said in a 911 call in July that the car smelled like there had been a dead body in it. Cindy Anthony has since retracted those comments, saying the smell could easily have been from garbage in the car. Last weekend, Anthony was sent back to jail on new charges, including petty theft and use of a forged check. The $500,000 bail, posted by a California bondsman that released Anthony from jail, was also rescinded. On Wednesday, the sheriff's office charged her with additional check fraud and theft counts.

Yup. And it's pretty sad and disturbing. I try to catch Greta on Fox every night at 10 to find out what's going on, 'cause she's sticking to this one like glue. Judging by their demeanor, I think Casey Anthony and Scott Peterson would be the perfect couple. :puke:

I live in the area - and people around here wonder why she hasn't been arrested yet - if the police have knowledge that the daughter's decomposing hair was in the trunk of her car & now chloroform.

Very sad and I believe there is more to this story besides where the baby's body is.

I think so, too. I also think they're waiting until they have an iron-clad case before they file charges of murder, so they don't blow it. But that iron-clad case may never happen.

I think they are trying to be very careful. I found this on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chloroform If chloroform can happen by the mixing of 2 common household chemicals I am sure the investigators are looking for more evidence. There is no body, chloroform can happen because of a spill and everyone knows hair ends up on and in everything. I not a solid enough case yet.

Good. From that Orlando link, it appears she left her lawyer's office with her mother, after the indictment came down, but Mom returned home without her. And then she was picked up on the highway by the police? Do I have that right? Mom's gonna' get herself in big trouble, too.

Is there a theory as to motive,?

I've read so many different theories, but one that stuck out is that Casey attempted to drug the baby so she could go out and party, but the child died.

Hopefully she will confess and tell everyone why.

From the account I read, Casey and her mom were driving home from Casey's attorney and they were pulled over by LE. Casey was taken into custody and Casey's mom went home alone from that point.

H, I never watch Nancy Grace, but did tonight. I usually let Greta Van Sustern fill me in on this case. Canadian election tonight, though, and I don't want to tune out at 10 pm. Anyway...I guess what happened was that when Casey and her mother reached an underpass, the Mom stopped the car, Casey got out, into a silver SUV driven by her bail bondsman, and her Mom continued home. Motivation? Who knows, with this case.
