SEPTEMBER 11--Last week we brought word of the arrest of Kenneth Smith, a Florida man busted for wearing baggy pants that exposed his boxer shorts. Well, it turns out that the Riviera Beach cops have been rather diligent in enforcing a new city ordinance targeting droopy shorts and trousers, according to police reports. Since officers began their crackdown last month, they have arrested at least 11 other baggy pants perps (of that group, two are juveniles). Below you'll find mug shots of eight of the other nine arrestees, aged between 18 and 36. As seen in a series of Riviera Beach Police Department probable cause affidavits, each of the males was nabbed after officers determined that low-slung pants or shorts had resulted in the exposure of between two and five inches of the individual offender's boxer shorts. While most of the busts occurred without incident, a few of the arrestees appeared bewildered that they were being arrested for a trouser-related offense. One of the juveniles, in fact, cursed out Officer J. Thornton and said, according to one affidavit, "Your a cracker and ain't got shit better to do." First-time violators of ordinance 12-3043 face a fine of up to $150. Repeat offenders could be sentenced to a maximum of 30 days in jail.

Prison chic. Very becoming.
Probably not worth using up public resources on though.

We were mugged in Riviera Beach a decade ago. The cops response? "We've had 6 shootings today."

I get annoyed at seeing four inches of backside and the tattoo on every second female. It's not going to be a good look after they have had children.

You could solve this if you just went around and pulled their pants down around their ankles like we used to do to each other in gym class. :D
No one went for a layup in gym class. :D

I wonder just how diligent these cops are. There's plenty of white kids who have underwear showing around here, yet the Riviera police only seem to find blacks. Is this city that much different?
Par for the course with laws of this type.

I haven't driven through Riviera Beach lately (and you don't if you don't have to go through to get to Singer Island) but according to the 2000 census the population was 78% black and 28% white. I would guess that those numbers would not be closer to 50/50 if we did a census tomorrow.
Now tonight I was in Parkland, FL and stopped at my normal Mobil station and there was a guy in his 20's with his pants hanging like in the previous picture (and he was wearing a belt) and his hat turned at an angle. White male in an Infinity SUV. I just cringed and went back to work.

I'm amazed at the number of kids that show up for college classes like that. In the first week of classes, I had two professors tell a student to not show up again if their underwear was showing. Another girl was told not to show up for anatomy lab with 3" glittered fingernails complete with gemstones.
I'm getting old, 'cause I just don't get it.

In terms of school, guys showing off 5 inches or more of their Calvin Klein undershorts is a statement that he values those Calvin Kleins more than his education. His wearing 200 plus dollar sneakers is a parallet statement. The young lady that comes to class with 200 plus dollar nails and looking like a painted prostitute is a parallel statement.
And we wonder why the students in other countries are out performing American kids on academic testing.

Rivera Beach is one of the "hoods" meaning it is basically occupied by a large black population...

It's about the methods teenagers choose to bolster their self esteem.
Some do it through sport, some through academic work, some through drugs or crime....and some go and purchase "the look" at a shopping mall.
I told my son that I never wanted to see him driving a car wearing a baseball cap, and especially not reversed on his head, because it instantly tells police about the drivers "attitude".
Five tickets and one licence suspension later, he got the message and removed every "accessory" and sticker from his car as well..

Or younger. And your family diet doctor prescribes your meth.
