Under the guise of preventing money laundering, Mexico seems to be imposing its own capital controls by limiting the influx of U.S. Dollars (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/travel/2013399737_trmexicodollars14.html). That does not make for a friendly tourist environment.

Are they going to stop tourist spending or remittances from illegals sending money home? Not a chance. Tourists will just go from one dealer to another, and exchange all the deniro they wish. Are they going to stop selling us oil, natural gas, produce, beef and grain? Are they suddenly going to halt the influx of drug dollars into Mexico? Yeah, right! So good luck to them on making any significant impact on the number of dollars flowing into the nation. This is nothing more than an empty gesture.

Mexico Curbing Use of U.S. Dollars
Yea, sure. The US$ is like a second currency down there.
Ask them "Do you want peso or US$" and see what they say.
But they will haggle in either.
