The answer is almost certainly that after he was arrested, he spent a few months being "interrogated". While they are torturing dissidents or spys, they don't make any public announcements. When they're done, they either let him go or put him on trial. Today they decided to put this one trial after a few months of being tortured in various ways I will leave vague.
