This American whose father-in-law is the main defendant, has written a detailed account of his efforts to persuade the Turkish public that it's all bogus.

Kind of makes you want to compare Greece to Turkey, doesn't it.
Greece is in the toilet financially and it is dangerous to walk down the streets in Athens.
Turkey is in great financial shape and you can walk almost everywhere in Istanbul and Ankara.

The Rodrik article sounds like tin foil hat articles that we here about CIA, NSA, Bilderburgers, IMF, whatever.
They are so stupid they can't even forge good document but they can run an elaborate scheme for years which no one, other than the author can break.
For me, it was his trip to Turkey that lends credence to the tin for hat status.
US citizens do NOT need a visa to enter Turkey. All you have to do is land at Attaturk go to the booth for "Visa stamps", pay your US$20 and they paste it in your passport. No problems.
However, they have a very sophisticated Immigration control. Automated, and they check deep and track you. It takes longer at the window in Turkey than almost any other Immigration window I have been at. (Except for China.)
It the government was really behind all of this, and they knew he was coming, don't you think they would have caught him at Immigration and booted him out?
Who knows is this is all tin foil or not. That is one of the things about good tin foil, it is always plausible.
What is bogus ? That the Military does not believe in self righteousness to take down any government it does not like ... Puppet goverments always crumble one day because they rot themselves and the society and the economy...
