Emergency Situation: Evacuation in Hamilton Township due to a train derailment and fire.

Recommended Actions: Emergency Management Ontario recommends that persons IMMEDIATELY leave the area within the boundaries of Ward Street to the North in Hamilton Township, Lake Ontario to the South, Hamilton Road to the West, and Theatre Road South to the East. Quickly select basic clothing, medication, toiletry supplies and other essentials for several days absence. Take your pets with you. Do not pick up family members from schools, daycares and institutions such as hospitals and nursing homes. Plans are in place to protect them. People currently outside this area are advised not to enter this area until further notice. Do not call 911 for information about this emergency. Remain tuned to this station for further information and instructions.

This Red Alert broadcast request will end at 23:59 hrs, unless a further
extension is requested.

Yeah, 10 care derailed, fuel car on fire & adjacent natural gas line severed:

2 cars w/jet fuel & one of propane are the 3 about which they are the most concerned

Yeah, that would increase the pucker factor.

Judging by the pics on the CTV website, there are 15 - 16 cars derailed

Emergency Management Ontario, in consultation with Hamilton Township, has cancelled the Red Alert for Hamilton Township.

The immediate threat has subsided. The evacuation area has been reduced from 1.6km to 800m.

Highway 2 remains closed to all traffic between Hamilton Road and Augustine Road.

As this is an ongoing situation, the public is advised to stay away from the area while the clean up continues.
