Watch out. Anything bad happens and it is going to get rough.
The rest of the country gets hosed anyway but FEMA and all of the electric line repair crews from all over the country are in the NE for the time being.
The only place which has enough is California and they are in bad financial condition.

The only place which has enough is California and they are in bad financial condition.A couple of years ago Colorado exhausted its snow removal budget and had to shift funds to cover the overtime. Not sure how that would play this time around given the budget crisis. Last year was a relatively mild snow season with just a few good dumps so we'll have to see how this plays out.

Last winter WAS unusually tame out there.
This year should be far more normal & snowy. You'll get to enjoy lovely evenings eating yummy things you've already got made & in the freezer.
NEXT winter, you can introduce Roger to the joys of sowmen & snow angels, honking big snow forts & such.
Snow + little kids = magic.

One thing about snow/freezing and no power you don't have to worry about the food in the refrigerator going bad and the beer is always cold.

IIRC it was the 2007-2008 season that we had back-to-back-to-back-to-back major dumpings and the crap remained for weeks. Plows couldn't keep up, side streets were so rutted cars could not get through and and cooold. The last part of our monsoon season (as it's referred to here) was shaping up to be the same pattern as in 2007.

Ari will be fine. Remember, her hubbie works at home, they've got a wood stove & preps. She can easily weather 4-6 weeks of being snowed in if need be.
Me, I'm a milk addict & would miss milk more than anything else.

I am glad it got up around 73F today (though for Hallowe'en eve, the wind picked up a little too much though we managed to walk around 2.5 miles, anyway!)
I went out for a walk with Roger earlier in the day to soak up the warmth, before the poop hits the fan again.
That said, there are still bloody leaves on the trees! Last time, one of the cottonwoods out back lost a thick limb onto the garage and damaged the gutter - might cost $200 to repair!

I have snowshoes, too...it's 1 mile or less to two grocery stores etc, assuming they will be open. I have snowshoed in the North Shore mountains uphill, in subzero/alpine type weather. I can hike 2 miles in the city, easy.

I know it was the 2009/2010 winter season that had snow storms stalled over the midwest and Iowa seemed to be right at the center of it, then the temps took a dive below zero for a couple of weeks or more. That's the year Misty moved in and we were able to use the weather against her former owner.
my tree still has 90% of it's leaves...I may not even get a chance to rake this year if this keeps up.

The trees are doing what they're supposed to be doing - it's the wnter weather that's slightly ahead of schedule.

True, true....
The weather is whacky here, I mean, it was 73F in the shade yesterday, I was sweating walking around (bear in mind, I do not walk slowly...) I like it, though, you get a really beautiful warm day before the poop hits. Quite nice, IMO.

No longer a "watch" now it is an "advisory." I do not know what the difference is. Looks ugly, though.
WATCH essentially means a “chance” this condition will happen and usually covers a large geographical area for a lengthy time period.
WARNING means the said weather is already occurring or is likely to occur and to take proper protective measures. Warnings are usually issued for much smaller geographical areas and usually for shorter more definite time periods.
ADVISORIES are sort of in between a WATCH and WARNING. The expected weather condition has a pretty good chance of occurring, even a likely chance of occurring, but typically an advisory is used for “less” severe type of weather conditions. A Wind Advisory might be issued or a Freezing Rain Advisory issued instead of a High Wind Warning or an ice Storm Warning.

Aint that the truth. I am SO not in Vancouver anymore. Weather here is a completely different sort of animal. A couple months ago, we were in the worst thunderstorm I have ever witnessed. Many strikes, lots of noise. I was in essence, scared shitless the house would get hit. Even my DH was a little...concerned...
The rain, hail etc was mind-blowing, too.
http://youtu.be/H0_BHOmbGu0
Footage I shot of a crazy storm we had several months ago...might contain swearing - I'm phobic about thunder/lightning.

At least this year we haven't had any snow until after Halloween. There's been years we sloshed through snow to trick or treat.
a little after 11 p.m. and just a little snow sticking to the ground but not the roads...looks like it's not even snowing right now. I'm in the Jefferson county, lakewood area..kind of the foothills region. Hopefully it won't get too bad during the night but I'll get up early to check anyway as I have to open the store by 8 a.m. and will have to see if I'll be able to drive to work or need to walk.

Good luck and be careful Lisa. It looks like the stuff that's going to hit Iowa is rain and not snow. As long as it doesn't freeze I'm ok. I really don't want to fall on my butt on my way into the orthopeadist.
