I used to be fiercely patriotic, standing for the National Anthem, even being in a restaurant or service station where no one else would. Since then upon observing and reading about our national history, I had no choice but to lose that strong patriotic attachment for my country. In fact as I have said times before I believe the real meaning of patriotism is one's love for your country's people and helping them solve their problems, not just flag waving and bragging "my country, right or wrong".
I have also said patriotism can become a dangerous form of idolatry when the practice of such patriotism causes one to stand up and support the evil and wrongdoing of your government and especially if that evil and wrongdoing is in violation of God's laws and sovereign justice.
How can I excuse my country when it has done deeds just as wicked as Hitler, Stalin and others. Just to get an example of what I mean just read articles written on NewsWithViews.com by David Hodges, Chuck Baldwin, Devvy Kidd, Dennis Cuddy,Deanna Spingola, Frosty Wooldridge and others. Just go to NewsWithViews.com and scroll down on the left side and click on the authors listed. These individuals are not left wing or radicals. They are conservatives, and outstanding members in their field of writing and expertise.
After reading their many articles you cannot help feel betrayed by our history books that our nation wasn't the greatest and most perfect nation in the world. Our deeds of evil are just as bad as the evil acts of Hitler, Stalin and other despots of history. Our evil deeds have wiped out thousands of people not all over the globe but tragically here in this country as well. For these evil deeds I must not only apologize for but with all my determination try to get this country not only to repent of them but make full restitution if necessary for the evil done.
I also do not adhere to the philosophy that one must always respect the offices of our highest elected Federal officials, i.e, President, Vice President, Senator or Representative. It is not the office I respect but the one who occupies that office. Since all such offices require a salary I pay them to hold, those occupants must earn my respect, trust and confidence. How would it be otherwise with a new friend you make or an employee you hire. To have a satisfactory relationship you must and they must earn each others respect, trust and confidence. I do not nor will not just give them respect simply because they hold that high office. Here lately none of them have earned my respect nor support. Because of that I refuse to address them by the title of that office, i.e., Senator, Congressman, Mr. President, Mr. Vice-President. I address them as Mr. Obama, Mr. Boehner, etc. At times I use more vigorous and truthful terms of address such as Dear Mr. Liar, Dear Mr. Traitor--Dear Mr. Imposter--and so on!
If the above objective in the fith paragraph above can be accomplished maybe once again I can hold my head high and say I am proud to be an American. I need not hear the excuses "my country, right or wrong" or if you don't love America, leave it. That is not the issue here. The issue, certainly if one is a Christian and believes in all Biblical teaching, boils down to are we a moral, ethical and upright people against all wrong doing and evil as the Bible commands us to be. If we are we must confess before God and the world such sins, be willing to repent of them and where necessary make restitution.
Mr. Obama is also right when he says this is no longer a Christian nation. What he failed to say it was once a Christian nation following Biblical precepts which made it a nation among nations, but tragically America has departed from the faith and become a nation doing things of abomination before the Lord. It is now time to prove Mr. Obama wrong by returning to the Lord our founding fathers believed in and trusted to preserve and bless the nation they founded.
I may no longer be patriotic but I deeply care as one with Christian values about the people of this country and the current struggles they endure. Their struggles are many--trying to earn enough to stay alive, which involves having a decent job which would allow them to afford health care, food, housing and a normal way of life, which is slowly being destroyed by the tyrants who now run our government dedicated to stripping of its sovereignty so it can join the New World Order. The problem here is not with the government formed and regulated by our constitution but with the people who run it. If we can throw these traitors out and replace them with Godly men and women who care more about the people than political favor and financial gain. And if the people can once more become a moral, godly righteous people then there is hope my old patriotism can return and I can finally say I am proud of America and being an American.
