Sites that ALLOW use of their material
I remembered yesterday that there are some sites I use which are funded mainly by user contributions & which exist to disseminate information to anyone interested. They've got no problems with people cutting and pasting their material, as long as attribution is given - usually in the form of posting the URL to the original site. I came up with one 'instant example' & no doubt over the next several days, will find several more.
I suspect many of us know of at least one such site, if not more & I'd like people to post those they find here so we can all benefit. How to check? Go to your favourite sites & check the section called 'terms of use', 'fair use policy', 'terms of service' or anything similar.
If you find your favourite site does allow or even encourage others to c&p their material, c&p the section that states that clearly, then give the URL. I'll give the first example below with the type of wording that should be repeated here so we're all clear.

ProMed can be used 'as is'
Citing ProMED-mail
ProMED-mail reports are freely available for retransmission, on-line posting, or publication provided that ProMED-mail is cited as the source of the material. When referencing ProMED-mail reports in published work, we suggest the format used in the following example, which is based on the Vancouver style:
ProMED-mail. West Nile virus, humans - USA (Louisiana). ProMED-mail 2002; 12 Jul: 20020712.4737. <http://www.promedmail.org>. Accessed 18 July 2002.

Anything created by the US Government is not copyrighted. I take this to include the texts of laws, as well as pages produced by the gov that explain the laws and how to use certain services, such as Social Security.

There's a huge list of audio, video, text, learning, and other sites that use the creative commons license. The list changes, but it is quite large.

gs, (& others) - before posting anything to indicate if something is available for C&P, please check CURRENT policies of those sites.
And this is a thread for sites we CAN link to, not those we cannot use.

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty © 2010 RFE/RL, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
there should be a webpage to collect all Public-Domain-News
general headlines that occur more than once, like
"7.2 Earthquake in Christchurch,NZ"
are hardly copyrighted.
First because mere news can't be copyrighted
Second, now would they show that you got it from
them and not from another source ?
So, one strategy could be to search for identical
snippets that appear on two different copyrighted webpages
and list them on another webpage.

So when are you going to create that cool news webpage? Oh, wait. You believe that *somebody else* should go do whatever you think is logical, right? Because everyone should just naturally see how positively brilliant your ideas are, and then drop whatever unimportant things they are doing in their lives and rush to implement your grand design as soon as humanly possible.
You are really good at telling others what they should do. I hold out some tiny speck of hope that you may one day come to the realization that your incessant demands will never be fulfilled, and that people merely find them irritating as hell. But it is a really, really tiny speck of hope.
