Bayonet training was not retained because anyone expected there to be a charge up the hill with naked steel fixed to the ends of M16s. It was retained because it teaches aggressiveness and a warrior mindset. And that is why the PC elements in the military are getting rid of it. Teaching soldiers to brutally ram six inches of steel into the belly of a human being over and over is no longer an acceptable image for our modern army. And that is my beef right there. It is all about the image, and the warrior spirit be damned. That is going to cost lives one day.
