Just total calories, calories from fat, total grams of fat and saturated fat and details about protein, cholesterol, sodium and vitamins. The general info now on hamburgers too. That's all.

I assumed you had such labelling on meat. We have had as long as I can remember... handy.

No, fresh meat, poultry and seafood are not required to have the sort of nutritional labels that other foods are.

Ah...I think it would be more lulzy to have "Contains: Meat" on it.

Like my giant bag of flour in bold letters "Contains: Wheat." I realize people with Celiac disease really need to know that but...DUH what else would it be made out of? It's regular ole enriched white flour (not that fancy gluten-free stuff...)

Don't your wheat bags also have the hutritional info printed on them?

And flours can be made of a number of grains as you well know - a lot of blends are showing up.

All packaged, canned, frozen and bagged processed or bulk foods require nutritional labels. That includes flour.

I guess, but they do list the ingredients AND have in bold "CONTAINS WHEAT." I think it speaks to the stupidity of most sheeple.

It is brainless, blanket, one-size-fits-all federal regulations.

The labels will be rough estimates at best. How could anyone distinguish between specific grams of protein, fat, cholesterol in such varying cuts of steaks and such. Especially with all of the "good side up' marketing tricks used in the packaging and displaying at many meat counters.

If this leads ranchers and feed lot operators to strive for yet leaner meat, I am really going to be pissed. You already cannot get a decent pork chop anymore. If they turn my rib eyes into uberlean, dry, tasteless crap, I am going to want somebody's intestines on a stick!

Ditto. I don't need my diet cherry picked by some master plan based on the medical stats of a bunch of fatass lazy office pukes with an eating disorder. Others may though. It's not like the goverment doesn't screw up everything they intend to fix.

It hasn't been a problem here. Plenty of different cuts of meat - as fatty or lean as consumers want. The labelling comes in handy for those tracking protein grams, etc. as part of their nutrition... if they choose. I just hauled a pack of shrimp out of the freezer. Here's what's available on our labels.

They give a portion size - in this case 10 shrimp & list:

Calories
Fat in %
Cholesterol in mg.
Sodium in mg. & %
Carbs as both fibre & suagrs by grams & %
Protein in grams
Various vitamins & minerals in % of RDA.

All our meats & most products have this standardized labelling.

I wonder how long will it be before someone sues because the product label isn't 100% accurate.

I'm thinking government guilt trip.

Got to fight that obesity.... yuppers... I wonder how many servings will be listed for a 16oz T-bone steak 3-4

If I get the opportunity to sink my teeth into a T-bone steak,
serving size is last thing I want to be thinking about

That's where all of this across the board specified calorie intake and portion recommendation falls on its face. What one guy can handle and assimilate in his diet based on lifestyle ,activity level, stress level, genetic predisposition,or a host of factors may be too much or not enough of this or that for the next.I don't need my foods broken down into descriptions for me before I eat them like I just landed here from another planet.Others may like it though for their own personal and specific diet reasons. However, they should take the labeled numbers and portion recommendations with a grain of salt 'pun intended', and use common judgement in tailoring their own intake.

I'm not aware they can force anyone to READ the labels. The info will be there for those who want it. Like here, most will probably ignore the labels.
