Default The Hidden Cost of Walmart's $4 Prescriptions

WakeUpWalmart reports that in order to profit on the $4 prescriptions, Walmart imports the drugs from cheap overseas suppliers. One of the suppliers, India’s Ranbaxy Laboratories, has been repeatedly investigated by the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Justice for “inadequate” safeguards against contamination, falsifying records and submitting false information to the FDA. The situation was so bad that in 2008 the FDA banned drugs from two Ranbaxy plants and in 2009 halted review of applications from a third

Do people think they are going to get $90/month quality drugs out of $4/month

Sad part is hospitals are sourcing from the EXACT same source, and charging you the $90.

Surprisingly not. DW was in the hospital recently.

Being the person she was she tracked every medication she was given to reconcile the detailed hospital bill (and dispute any irregularities) even though we have very good insurance.

Some of the required name brand stuff was expensive as you would expect, but quite a lot of it was generic and the prices per dose were quite reasonable. ($.25 - $.50/dose)

Other stuff, like box of tissues, was regular store price. (We would have paid that because we always coupon while getting them on sale.)
