Oldie...can' find a date.
Venezuela Swine Flu Cases Hit 200
By Jeremy Morgan
Latin American Herald Tribune staff
CARACAS – The number of cases of swine influenza diagnosed in Venezuela crossed another watershed Wednesday, when Deputy Health Minister Nancy Pérez Sierra told state news agency ABN that the total had reached 200.
Unconfirmed reports on Thursday suggested that over 210 cases had been discovered across the country, a version of events to which there was no immediate reaction from the government.
News of the higher figure prompted speculation that the rate of infection might be accelerating in Venezuela as reports elsewhere suggested that the worst of the worldwide pandemic might be over.
According to Pérez Sierra, the Rafael Rangel National Hygiene Institute (INHRR) on the university campus in central Caracas had recorded 1,520 suspected incidences of swine flu, of which 1,294 had been discounted.
A further 26 cases were still being analyzed, she added. So far, there been no complications caused by pneumonia.
On the basis of individual states, the largest number of cases was in Miranda, which takes in the most heavily populated parts of the country, with 72 confirmed diagnoses to date.
Next in line were Anzoátegui with 31, Aragua, 22, and the Capital District, 16, followed by Carabobo (13), Zulia (11), Mérida (11), Nueva Esparta (six apiece), Bolívar (4) and Yaracuy (3). Two cases apiece were reported in the states of Vargas, Lara, Apure and Portuguesa, and one in Guárico.
No fatalities have been reported as a result of the disease in Venezuela since the first case was discovered in May, a young man who had returned from a trip to Panama only a few days before.
Earlier this week, Pérez Sierra announced that 50 percent of the cases diagnosed in Venezuela up to then had been of people who had recently been abroad. Of these, slightly over half had been in the United States, followed in declining order by Panama, Spain, Colombia, Curazao, Argentina, Brazil, Peru and the Dominican Republic.
Observers warned against taking the list as an indication of where it was more likely to catch swine flu. They argued that instead it rather more accurately reflected the numbers of people from Venezuela who visited those countries.

Actual count is 461cases 5 deaths.
