The main reason i posted this roundup was to show readers that Bird flu is still around and thank the members who actively post on the subject as there really is not nothing in my above post that hasn't been covered here by others, sort of an eye opener and a reminder as the Bird flu posts disappear fast under the Swine flu ones.

I did a quick search here and did not find this one, well its old news anyway

It was bound to happen since H5N1 never went away.

H5N1 was very active in China at the start of last year and then just stopped.

In Egypt new cases of mild H5N1 popped up every other day sometimes faster. Most of these where in young kids. It got drowned out in the news when the pandemic started and the rate of cases also declined at the time. This might be due to the Egyptian flu season.

The timing is similar to the expected pattern given in the newest Egypt Swine Flu article.

New cases of mild H5N1 kept popping up and swine flu is there too. It's a region to watch and at least they do press releases.

The others are:

China.

Because the 2009 pattern was weird (although that is consistent with prior years ) , there's lot's of bird flu & history shows it's necessary.

and

Indonesia

They killed the H5N1 press rather efficiently but i doubt they did the same to the virus. The first Indonesian H1N1 was actually confirmed in another asian country while there still was no swine flu in Indonesia.

Officially.

Those two need a closer watch then Egypt because they're not bound to come out with the news right away.

The outbreaks in birds we see now all over Asia are not quite as bad as back in 2005/2006 so there's probably less risk in most of those areas.

Or so i guess. My focus is on the three countries above.

...

Pharmaceutical companies including Novartis are already working on vaccines against H5N1 bird flu, which has killed or forced the culling of more than 300 million birds since 2003 as it spread to 61 countries in Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

...

The UN's Food and Agriculture Organization reported 250 outbreaks of H5N1 in birds in February alone — in Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Laos, Nepal and Vietnam.

Avian influenza has killed 261 people out of 424 infected since 2003.
