Christchurch hit by big aftershock

A 6.1 magnitude aftershock has rocked Christchurch, the biggest to hit the area since Saturday's massive earthquake.

Aftershocks measuring 5.1 and 4.4 have shaken Canterbury this morning after a sleepless night for many, with at least 10 tremors. More

Maternity services saw an increase in the number of women going into labour after a 5.1 magnitude aftershock today, with 23 in labour by the afternoon.
Cardiology nurses have been requested after a jump in the number of patients requiring specialist cardiology care since the 7.1 magnitude quake.
Schools in the quake zone remain closed for this week.
The full cost of the Canterbury earthquake could be as high as $4 billion, Treasury has revealed....want to bet this estimate doubles...

NZ Civil defence warns of bigger quake than the original

Civil defence chief John Mitchell warned residents to prepare for worse, saying geologists advised that a quake even bigger than Saturday's magnitude-7.4 event - the most damaging to hit a New Zealand city in 89 years - could occur.
