State Supreme Court justices Richard Sanders and James Johnson stunned some participants at a recent court meeting when they said African Americans are overrepresented in the prison population because they commit a disproportionate number of crimes.

Both justices disputed the view held by some that racial discrimination plays a significant role in the disparity.

Johnson also used the term "poverty pimp," an apparent reference to people who purportedly exploit the poor in the legal system, say those who attended the meeting.

So true. The pimping isn't so much for financial gain, as it is for political and social gain. In law school, there was a group of folks who would talk themselves into a lather over the whole "social justice" thing. They would literally carry on even if no one was listening, with a wild look in their eyes. "Social justice" is just short hand for commie in my book. Then you have the grandstanders like Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

Funny thing.... I just got back from a Halloween party. The hostess, a friend of mine who I used to work with, said to me, ".... by the way, Judge Sanders is here." It did not click in my mind who she was talking about. Later on, I was talking with someone and an older gentleman excused himself as he walked between myself and the person I was yakking with to get past us. Later, my friend said, "that was Judge Sanders". It was only later when I was talking with someone else, they mentioned the story above, and it dawned on me who this guy was. Unfortunately, he had already left. Then I started talking about the incident, remembering this thread. The Halloween party was also a birthday party for a lady standing nearby, and she said, "yeah, he's my ex-boyfriend."

So I had a chance to talk with Washington State Supreme Court Justice Sanders, and blew it.
