The multi-generational home makes a comeback

Seems for various reasons - not just the economy, multi-generational living is making a comeback in Canada. Municipalities are taking note & changning building restrictions. Good article, not too long:

Everyone wins like it was in the past.

Older generation takes care of the kids of the younger generation, Younger generation takes care of the older generation when they are really old.

Maybe the younger kids get the house the older generation dies and there isn't a huge McMansion mortgage for the younger to pay.

Sounds good to me as long as everyone is compatible.

Its a good idea but it will never fly in some US communities. There are some pretty crazy residential housing codes out there limiting the not quite traditional family and how they live under 1 roof.

well I tossed the exhubby out and my dad kinda moved in with me then I was like WHY are we doing this when there is a house not that far away...
after MUCH shoveling and dumpsters(dad was a hoarder) the house was ok to live in again

I got remarried... still lived with DAD... moved away but dad lived with me 6 months outta the yr.
dad got Cancer and lived with me till the day he died...

my grandparents... my dad lived with them toward the end (last 4yrs or so).

my kids know that they have a roof as long as they go to school or get a job and contribute to the household. Hell things are so tight right now I have my 15yr old willing to work at the grocery store down the street to help with bills his friends think hes nuts... I think hes great... do I want him HAVE to do that NO and were arent there yet but if we did I think its awesome that he isnt selfish and thinking MY money mine... like his friends do...

I dont know how well I might do with them being married and living here with us but **shrugs* maybe by then we will bump out part of the house if necessary.

Its hard. On our best days, it is just plain hard: my mother has lived with us for 20 years.

As such: MY HUSBAND IS A CERTIFIABLE SAINT.

And as a result of all this, I am certifiabale.
