While we now see these sold as replacement bulbs, it seems obvious that in the not too distant future that lamps will be sold with permanent LED arrays that do not unscrew to be replaced. The LEDs can be arraigned in patterns, panels or whatever, so lamp designers will be free to make lamps in a much wider variety of shapes. Mounting or placement locations will also be much more flexible. Lighting design is about to undergo a radical change.
