If he would have said Marx he'd a had a better argument and ESPN wouldn't have had a leg to stand on in their reasoning.

One more example of how divisive this president is, IMO.

Yep. The Dixie Chicks were roundly scorned and criticized for years, and probably lost a bunch of gigs, when their lead singer expressed her opinion of Bush during a concert.

From Wikipedia: Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing[1] (also known simply as Shut Up and Sing) is a 2006 documentary film produced and directed by Academy Award-winning director Barbara Kopple and Cecilia Peck (daughter of famed actor Gregory Peck).[2]

The film follows the Dixie Chicks, an extremely successful all-woman Texas-based country music trio, over a three year period of intense public scrutiny, fan backlash, physical threats, and pressure from both corporate and conservative political elements in the United States after lead singer Natalie Maines publicly criticised then President of the United States George W. Bush during a live 2003 concert in London as part of their Top of the World Tour.

I never cared about DC ripping on Bush, I cared that they did it to a foreign audience.

It was hypocrisy to do it where they thought they wouldn't get caught. Would they have done it at a gig in the US?

Plus, you can rip on the President all you want but you keep the dirty laundry at home.

So, another 'musical' has-been gets his name back in the spotlight by playing the race card. Any media attention is good media attention. I guess.

Certainly not a never been, Hank Jr was about as hot as it gets in country at one point in time.

ETA: note the time period of the mid 1980s.

I thought Clinton was our first black president. Or maybe he was the first black president to win re-election.

Hank Jr. is still very much relevant in Country music. He may not be singing, but songs are still being written and sung about him or his contributions to the music.

I heard the audio clip of Hank yesterday on the radio, and in my opinion he DIDN'T compare Obama to hitler. In fact he was using an analogue that could have been interpreted as comparing Obama to Netanyahu .

This was nothing but a coordinated attack against a random unlucky individual in order to paint Obama as a victim of hate crimes.

He was bitching about the repubs golfing and joking with Obama, not bitching about Obama, and said it was as if or as absurd as hitler was playing golf with Netanyahu

Further explanation by Williams on his statement is here:

Excerpt:

Quote:
"After reading hundreds of e-mails, I have made MY decision," he wrote. "By pulling my opening Oct 3rd, You (ESPN) stepped on the Toes of The First Amendment Freedom of Speech, so therefore Me, My Song, and All My Rowdy Friends are OUT OF HERE. It's been a great run."

Williams, through his publicist, said on Monday: "Some of us have strong opinions and are often misunderstood. My analogy was extreme -- but it was to make a point. I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me -- how ludicrous that pairing was. They're polar opposites and it made no sense. They don't see eye-to-eye and never will. I have always respected the office of the president."

Tuesday, he issued another statement."The thought of the leaders of both parties jukin and high fiven on a golf course, while so many families are struggling to get by simply made me boil over and make a dumb statement," Williams wrote on Facebook and his website. "I am very sorry if it offended anyone."
