That does sound like a rape.

If it was a set up, then someone needs to look into the room-service employee who told the girl that the room was empty. If it was a set up, the only part the girl had to do with it is that she was sent into the room, and whoever did that took a gamble that the pig would try it on with her.
But, my God....4 'interviews' before the police were called?! Puts one off of reporting rape, really.
Everything in this story was perfect to have him get away... a real comedy of errors, but he got caught, anyway...thanks to him being in such a hurry to leave that he forgot his phone...and probably being so worried about forgetting it that he called to get it back.

So paying off her family would change her mind?
She has given a statement to the police, how would it change the outcome? The evidence is there. Would she be expected to say it was consensual?
That she would clam up so her family could live a better life?
I don't think that would be an option for her at this point. But I'm not a lawyer.

One small correction to the Daily Mail article....
Papua New Guinea is a desperately poor place. The family house shown in the photo means the family is upper middle class or rich by local standards. You can see in the family photo they have quite decent clothes as well. These folks would be educated working people; probably professionals. The caption, "impoverished", is merely a western reporter or editor displaying their ignorance.

Careful with that scorn 06.
She comes from "Guinea, West Africa" not "Papua New Guinea"
and I doubt they normally walk around naked .
That looks like Islamic garb to me . Could it be she might
face Sharia consequences for unlawful acts with a
sleazy old French pervert .

Thanks for the correction on the location, but I what I said applies equally there. In such a poor nation, having a house like that makes you quite well-off.

Questions about accuser leave Strauss-Kahn sexual assault case in limbo
By Zachary A. Goldfarb and Howard Schneider, Published: June 30
Attorneys for Dominique Strauss-Kahn will ask a court to reduce the conditions of his bail after New York City prosecutors raised serious concerns about the hotel chambermaid who accused the former International Monetary Fund managing director of sexual assault, according to a person familiar with the case.
Strauss-Kahn may be freed from house arrest Friday after attorneys for both sides requested an unexpected late-morning hearing in State Supreme Court. Prosecutors are expected to tell the court that they have found information that raises questions about the chambermaid’s credibility, the person said.
The New York Times reported Thursday night that the prosecution’s case against Strauss-Kahn was breaking down. A spokeswoman for Benjamin Brafman, an attorney for Strauss-Kahn, declined to comment. A spokesman for the New York City district attorney said there would be no comment before Friday’s hearing.

The 'accuser'; i.e., the woman who was allegedly assaulted; is filing the suit against the Post.

Now that he is released he can say all he wants, especially if he leaves and goes to France.
He isn't going to go and test the bars himself. He would have gotten a report.
They would have to kill all of the people involved with the report, did the test, etc.
