SoCal Street Cart Vendors Hurting After ‘Occupy’ Group Splatters Blood, Urine

SAN DIEGO (CBS) — A pair of Southland street cart vendors who were forced to shut down their businesses after “Occupy” protesters vandalized their carts are hoping to get some help from local residents.
KNX 1070′s Tom Reopelle reports a fundraiser in the Gas Lamp district in San Diego on Monday night is aimed at helping two vendors get back on their feet.
The coffee and hot dog carts were located in Civic Center Plaza, the same location as the Occupy San Diego protesters.
That group first settled in to the plaza Oct. 7 and set up a tent city which has since twice been taken down by police.
Coffee cart owner Linda Jenson and hot dog cart operators Letty and Pete Soto said they initially provided free food and drink to demonstrators, but when they stopped, the protesters became violent.

Bite the hand that feeds you - yeah...
1%er my butt. By time you pay your licences, vendors' taxes & a squillion other fees, you work damned hard for every cent of profit you make.
Gotta love the sense of entitlement. How long do the Occupy folks expect the freebies will continue?

It should be ending soon in colder areas. I want to see them survive an Iowa winter in those tents. Especially when we get one of those snows that drift against things and end up in 5 ft drifts. They will be trapped in their tents.
The ones here are staying in a park. The city was going to makes them leave but the group got a permit to be there and as long as they don't cause any problems they can renew the permints. Any problems at all and they will have to leave. They may be getting rid of them soon, a drunk teen was found at the camp.

I'm pretty convinced after listening to some of their interviews that they have no idea why they are there. While they are busy protesting the unfairness of life, they are NOT working or trying to work and are adding to the problem. Meanwhile, hardworking people go to work everyday so we can pay for these hooligans' unemployment benefits, food stamps, etc.

Our local Occupy group consists of... three. Three men who are there 24/7; who blog what's happening, organize events, speak with politicians & the public & handle anything media. The three claim a core group of 80-100 regular participants.
I'll give them this. They've had Health & Safety officials in to make sure thei small complex of tents & tarps is healthy & safe. They invited the Fire Marshall's office in to check for fire hazards, obtained fire extinguishers & are being mindful of fire risks. They have been unfailingly polite to the public - even hecklers. They've asked for, recieved & continue to get donations of food, water, tarps, pallets & other stuff. They ARE grateful & continually post what appear to be heatfelt 'thank yous'. The Mayor & a number of city councillors have visited the camp & met with the trio. Everybody is aware that at least a few bylaws are being broken but the Mayor is smart enough to know that lack of confrontation of any sort is keeping things low key, friendly & safe.
The group here is simply too small to be running into issues of rape, drug overdoses etc. & November weather here on the lake shore where they're located... sucks. It's windy & damp. It doesn't encourage loiterers.
I don't know how long they'll stick it out here. With a large university & community college in town, I'm sure a lot of students drop by. A number of the 'lower orders' drop in although not as many as previously. We have a hefty % of poor here & a LOT of them are rich with entitlement attitude. The welfare, disability, food banks, soup kitchens, snowsuit fund, Christmas Hamper program, Street Health, methadone clinics, free education for adults, all manner of counselling... it's never enough for some of them. They want more, more more... preferably in untraceable cash. Sadly, their understanding of the source of FUNDING for all the freebies is sorely lacking.
What surprises me is the high number of middle class here who continue to support Occupy & literaly. I'm pretty sure their complaints are vastly different. When interviewed, they speak of overly high taxation, banks screwing the public, (big time & our banking regulations make that easy), non-representative government. Their issues overlap the younger Occupy protesters to some degree but not entirely. I think a lot of their support comes in lieu of the ability to be present.
They're too busy working.
