Default Note to self: Taser no good on wild boars

Note to self: Taser no good on wild boars

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081016/...m7wENK_3Os0NUE

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - While normally effective on people, a Hernando deputy learned the hard way that Taser stun guns do not work very well on wild boars.

The sheriff's office reported that Deputy Joseph Tibor responded to complaints of an "extremely large pig" tearing up a resident's yard in a Brooksville neighborhood Tuesday morning. He quickly found a 450-pound boar rooting up shrubbery and threatening a water fountain.
The animal then flashed his tusks toward onlookers. Tibor tried to stop it with his Taser, but the 50,000 volts had no effect on the animal.
The boar was eventually corralled into a neighbor's trailer.

It's a good thing he didn't piss it off or he'd have found out the effectiveness of his .40 on wild boar as well!

Actually Taser International did manufacture an Animal Control Taser. Very effective on a large bull. We looked at if for a brief time for loose cattle control. Unfortunately, Taser took it off the market. That boar would have gone down like a sack.

Dont believe me, watch this:

This video used to be part of the promotional stuff on this device on Tazer International's website.

Wild Boars can have a real nasty temperament. It is not unusual to have one spot you from a distance and charge at you with those rooting tusks. If you don't have a hunting rifle, climb the nearest tree. They can also get very large. I think "Hogzilla" was allegedly over 800 lbs.

This reminds me of that story at the old CE where this rancher was feeding his cattle and deer would mix freely with the cattle to eat with them. So he decided, what the heck, might as well fatten the deer for some good venizen. He got them to the point he could hand feed them. Then one day he decided to lasso a noose around a deer to catch it. It turned into Bambi-zilla and kicked the (bleep) out of him.

Not nice to fool with mother nature.

Frontal shots on grown boar are tough. My brother put three loads of 12 ga OO buckshot into the face of a good sized boar once only to have it run off. Had to trail it to finish it off. Take your shot from the side if you can.

And use slugs---buckshot is highly overrated against tough skinned animals
