This article went to sh*t fast. Evocative words.

From its headquarters in Manhattan, Cerberus has assembled a remarkable arsenal. It began with Bushmaster, which until recently was based here in Maine. Unlike military counterparts like automatic M-16s, rifles like those from Bushmaster don't spray bullets with one trigger pull. But, with gas-powered mechanisms, semiautomatics can fire rapid follow-up shots as fast as the trigger can be squeezed. They are often called "black guns" because of their color. The police tied a Bushmaster XM15 rifle to shootings in the Washington sniper case in 2002.

This news? How? Cerberus was all the talk when I started at Cabela's in July of 06. Everyone was speculating that they were going to shoot for the M-4 Contract once Colts contract expired. To that end, they needed the expertise of DPMS and Bushmaster, plus the manufacturing space that Rem, and Marlin had. Actually, on paper, Bushmaster bought Remington, Marlin and COBB Engineering, home of the 30.06 AR-15.
Anyways, this is old news. The article is written like this is some evil venture. Someone has an agenda. Oh wait, it is the San Francisco Chronicle, never mind.
