#88/365 - March 2nd: Pizza and a Harry Potter movie night for the family this evening - Emily wasn't too enthralled with the movie so she went off to her room and entertained herself with a bath, a little play dress-up and some games on the iPad.

That is awesome.

In case no one has told you lately - you're doing a great job raising your two fine young ladies. When I look at your photos of them, I see two little girls who happily possess that most scarce & precious commodity - a deeply rooted SECURITY that all is well in their world. They have a mom & dad who love them very much & who seem to work hard to fill their lives with happy times that provide a generous store of treasurable, happy memories. They have excursions, adventures & parents who are more than willing to play & look silly if necessary.

They look bright & confident & not afraid to try on life - on their terms for now, well supported & backed by mom & dad but later, they'll be fully prepared to tackle life on ITS terms. They have a clear love of reading & learning, firends, extended family & a great place to call home.

Ya done good, REAL good dad...

carry on.

You have my congratulations on two fine young ladies. Speaking as the father of twin daughters, you have my sympathies. You are in for a wild ride; but it will be fun in the long run. Enjoy them now: there will be about 6 years you want to kill them, and then not want to let them go.

#96/365 - March 10th: We had a post-retrofit evaluation of our house today in which they confirmed that we had a new furnace/door/low-flush installed and re-did a blower test to evaluate how much our energy-efficiency rating will improve. The inspector will submit the results to the federal government soon and hopefully we'll be mailed an energy rebate cheque shortly after that...

Thanks for the new pictures Toner! I've never seen the grill of a bus covered up like that. Do you know why they do it? Too cold, too wet??

Too cold - by reducing the amount of cold air getting at the radiator it allows the engine to get heated up quicker and stay at a better running temperature rather then getting overwhelmed by all the cold air rushing in.

#97/365 - March 11th: The family started construction on Emily's grade one Leprechaun Trap Project. First a little research on the web, a shopping trip to pick up supplies & bait, and then the build begins!

#99/365 - March 13th: The completed Leprechaun Trap - lots of green and gold to entice him in. Emily decided against including a rainbow but she did make use of a variety of jewel colours. Apparently large versions of leprechaun clothing are intriguing and "Do Not Enter" signs are something they'll go out of those naughty fellows will actually go out of their way to ignore. The trap design is geared to have him climb the ladder, see the treasure chest and walk across the carpet to try and get the contents. Unbeknownst to him, the carpet actually conceals a hole that he'll fall through an be caught!

Off the trap goes to school...

#102/365 - March 16th: Ski Day for the girls elementary school. This was Emily's first and Renée's third school outing to the local ski hill. A little apprehension at the start but they both enjoyed the day.

Lots of catching up to do...

#106/365 - March 20th: Renée's 9th birthday - she can't be that old now can she?

#107/365 - March 21st: Two girls in Sparks/Brownies = lots of cookies to sell.

#108/365 - March 22nd: Mid-term report cards were out on Monday and today the girls school had a "Celebration of Learning" event where the kids had the opportunity to show off to their parents some of the projects/activities they've worked on.

#109/365 - March 23rd: Mother Nature keeps changing her mind whether she wants to have warm weather or more snow. She'll likely change her mind again tomorrow once again...

#110/365 - March 24th: For her birthday this year we gave Renée the option of a birthday party with her friends or getting $200 spending cash (we don't go overboard on the kids parties but that was still a $ savings for us). She went with the money and used it, along with birthday money from the grandparent's, to buy herself an iPod Touch and lots of toys, with some savings remaining afterwards.

#111/365 - March 25th: The marketing for Sea Monkeys hasn't changed much from when I was a kid.

#112/365 - March 26th: Not the typical everyday fashion wear I see around town...

#113/365 - March 27th: Canadian Redneck I presume?

#114/365 - March 28th: Obviously I need to have a talk with the girls about the proper etiquette when choosing a chocolate...

#115/365 - March 29th: It's been spring break for the girls this week and they decided they wanted a sleep-over at Opa's this evening.

#116/365 - March 30th: Bye-bye pennies - after countless years of debate the federal government announced in their budget yesterday that they will stop producing new pennies by the end of the year as a cost savings measure - they cost 1.6 cents each to mint. Retailers are supposed to round .01 & .02 amounts down to .00 and .03 & .04 amounts up to .05, making an overall wash on the cost, except for gas stations who will see an increase in customers pumping an extra .02 cents into their tanks.

#117/365 - March 31st: In addition to their individual cookie sales, the girls also are participating in group sales of cookes - apparently the previous weekend their group sold 19 cases (228 boxes) in a 4 hour period at another store location...

#123/365 - April 6th: A quiet Good Friday holiday, with a "Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang" movie night and an early Easter dessert.

#124/365 - April 7th: Egg decorating this evening until the girls noticed the time and ordered everyone to go to bed so that the Easter Bunny could visit.

Mom say's "We're going to be working with dye - wear a shirt you won't mind having to throw out in case it gets stained". Renée comes up with an alternate solution...

#141/365 - April 24th: I wasn't sure if I'd become an ebook convert but if I make up a comparison chart between the two I find my e-reader seems to have an edge in most categories. Mind you, I do have to still give a big plus to paper on the issue of power/battery life - especially as I was riding home with a dead tablet.
