I just started using http://www.goodsearch.com to support the foundation that funds a brain injury program I work with. It's pretty nifty to make money for the foundation every time I do a search at home or at the program.

A penny for one search doesn't sound like much but I do a lot of searches and so do others under the name of the foundation and pennies become dollars pretty quickly.

I've visited http://www.pandora.com/ once a while back and decided I didn't want to register an account or give them any information. My loss.

Recently I started using it (iphone) and on the web. It's really a wonderful project. First off, it's essentially an internet radio website. However there are no stations, and you cannot tell it what songs to play. Instead, you tell pandora a band you like, or better yet, a specific song you like. It then generates a radio station based on that information.

For example, I just created a station based off a song called "The End is the Beginning is the End" by the Smashing Pumpkins. They don't play that song for me, but instead play songs that are similar based on song analysis. So other songs on this station are currently played because they feature: electronica influences, subtle use of vocal counterpoint, subtle use of vocal harmony, mild rhythmic syncopation and acustic rhythm piano.

As it plays songs, you can give thumbs up or thumbs down, and it will start to narrow down the station based on feedback you give it.

This might all be old news to some of you, but to me this is the ultimate source of music. It's fine to know you like a specific band, but when browsing based on music category, the results are so broad that I end up disliking most of the recommendations. Pandora resolves all of that and allows you to listen to NEW music that you WILL like, rather than hit and mostly miss.

The site is ad supported, and there is an option to pay $36/year to remove the ads. Ads are unobtrusive. I decided to shell out the cash after one day of using the site because it's that good and I want to support the project.

Wow thanks Jason!! I have very weird taste in music and they just pulled up all these new artists similar to the one I put in. This is great!

I'm glad others are finding and supporting Pandora. They've been providing my background music for over a year. I have eclectic tastes, which are perfectly accomodated here. I have my choices narrowed down to about a dozen stations and usually opt for "Quick Mix". Check it out if you want truly customized music.

Another site that can keep you entertained for a long time. Provides an intimate, humorous look at life in Russia, written, (you guessed it) in English. I've seen/learned such interesting things there! Life in Siberia, life in a small russian village, and on and on. Love it!

I dont want to get banned, but......

If you want to know of any really bad viruses or stange disease things, check in to this site. It should only be one of several sites monitored for information as it always reads rather dire.

I apologize gsgs, I thought this was for sites "I" like. I just thought I would post cake central because the cakes, cupcakes and cookies are so pretty, fun, and perhaps some Mom's that do bake would enjoy looking at what others are doing.

I won't post any other links because I am not sure what is important and what isn't.

sorry.

Brook -- don't mind gsgs, he thinks that pretty much anything that he's not deeply interested in is a waste of time...humor, smilies, you name it. Take solace that when he opens his Mensa/No smilie forum, you likely won't get and invite.
