After watching the way they savaged Brett Favre in the NFC Championship game the year they won the Super Bowl (gag), I'm not at all surprised. Every time I've watched them since, they've been overly violent with opposing offensive players.
I wish they'd take their Super Bowl away from them.
Now I will go back into mourning over Peyton Manning.

Thugs.
I watched a documentary on Joe Namath on HBO around the time of the Super Bowl. It was interesting watching plays from the 60's and 70's -- the linemen taking down opposing players -- the hits look completely different than they do now. Then, they were trying to stop the play and keep the ball from moving forward. Watching modern football, you can clearly see that they're trying to disable the opposing players, as stated in this article.
+1 on Peyton.

It's done. I feel like I've lost a family member. I'm genuinely heartbroken.

Seriously. No sh*t.
They are defensive lineman. Why do you think you watch that stuff? To see people get creamed.
Football is crypto warfare. Acquisition of territory, etc.
If someone detests the violence then who not ditch the helmets and pads and play pro flag football.
That 26 in Pee Wee got a good lick in didn't he.

Did you ever read Jerry Kramer's book about his time as a offensive lineman at Green Bay? Nothing has changed.
I don't see any difference, just more cameras and better camera angles to catch the action.

More hijinks from the Team Everyone Felt Sorry For Because They Were In A Town Stupid Enough To Be Built In The Middle Of A Bowl, Surrounded By Massive Amounts Of Water, And Then - Surprise! - It Flooded:
