If it were not for the USPS and all the junk mail they fill my mailbox with, I would never have tinder to fire up the woodstove.

How many countries use Saturday mail delivery? I can't remember a time in Canada where we had more than Monday to Friday delivery. I remember Saturday delivery in the UK but admit I was surprised to learn the US deliver ail on Saturdays.
In our city of 58,000 we have one post office & they no longer even sort mail here. The equipment is old & inefficient so now all mail is trucked 90 miles away & sortred there - even local mail which adds about a day to delivery times. Most corner stores sell stamps & a certain major drug store chain offers full mail outlet service including first class & other special delivery methods, parcels & even some collectible stamps & coins.
So far, it seems to be keeping our postal system viable if just barely. Fewer people are using mail service anymore. It's all texting, e-mail, delivery service... the post office seems to make most of its money delivering junk mail.

I make it a point to use the US postal service whenever possible - order stuff online and such.

UPS and Fedex are preparing for the battle over the spoils. Fedex is experimenting with some flat rate boxes in 3 or 4 cities and UPS is loosening their Surepost policies.
