Default Tornado in Morris County, NJ

DD called and described tornado activity in Randolph, NJ. Trees have snapped and the tops torn off, many power lines down.

Some pictures of the flood, hail, and wind damage.

The storm went southeast, towards Newark and Elizabeth. I don't think it was near lilly.

Thanx for that info. All I know is that she's in NJ - had no idea where.

Your family members okay?

Yes. DD called to tell me they had just been served dinner in their favorite Mexican restaurant in Dover when the storm blew in. She said it was the worst she had ever seen. The sky turned ozone green, and the doors on the restaurant were blowing in and then out. They were hit with really loud thunder and torrential rain, very heavy wind, then golf ball sized hail. The restaurant lost power and they ate by candlelight. When it calmed down a bit the roads were flooded and trees and power lines down all over. SIL drove off into the storm to go to work, while DD drove home in the opposite direction. She kept driving through flood waters... watching to see if the car in front of her got through alright then she'd give it a go. WAY too risky, IMO. But she got home okay and said there was very little damage when she got there.

lilly is even further south so she should be fine.

NJ gets some wild storms. It doesn't have a reputation for bad weather, but every year there are tornadoes, floods, ice storms, deep snow, heat waves, droughts... it really is terrible up there.

It was a smart move to at least make sure the cars ahead of her made it through sketchy patches BEFORE she tried.

I think after seeing that, I wouldn't have been too hungry...LOL

Glad she's safe along with her husband.

Glad everyone is ok. It looked very ominous around our way about the same time, but it looked like it was going to stay north of us. Guess it did.

News12NJ (subscription) is saying it was an F2 tornado that touched down in Dover.
