Default Giant Mushroom Picture

I've never seen a mushroom this big, but I convinced an aquaintance to forward this snap from her phone yesterday.

The picture was taken yesterday, evidently, in Savannah, Georgia. The parents thought it no big deal, and the kid ended up smashing it on the driveway....

Really? How big can you get?

Said he found it in the woods. Looks like about 25 pounds from the way he is holding it.

Thoughts?

I could see something like that growing in the Cascades or the Olympics. In the fall.

Maybe.

But Georgia in the very late spring?

Doesn't seem possible.

The Savannah area got 10+ inches of rain from TS Beryl at the end of May. That probably helped the growth.

Probably not poisonous. No annulus (ring) on the stem. Still one honkin big 'schroom.

With enough nutrient, enough moisture, and just the right temperature, sure, it could grow that large.

I have seem dinner plate size.

Biggest mushroom is 2400 years old and covers 2200 acres.

Really impressive mushroom. The kid could have used it as an umbrella.

I wonder what type of mushroom it is.
