Probably advertising. For us in my childhood, soda was strictly a weekend thing. It was almost a ritual. Saturday morning we ran errands & grocery shooped. Saturday lunch consisted of hot dogs, ice cream & soda. Otherwise it was limited to outingd, amusement parks, the beach, going to the movies. In the house we had apple & orange juice, milk, water... no shortage of things to drink.

Same here. An occassional soda. It was supposed to rot the teeth. If we went into town we would stop at a greek hole in the wall and have a texas weiner with dry chile. Wonderful flavors not gloppy but just spicy enough and have a coke. Also a rare root beer float or cream soda with Jewish corned beef on rye. No soda in the house at all. Loads of fruit and watermelon and lemonade in the summer.

Oh lilly, now you've got me going on lemonade, and I just filled up my refrigerator with iced tea for tomorrow.

Hey, I've got lemons on the countrer! And it's stinking hot here - 100 in the house & 118 outside... those are 'real feel' values.

It's hazy, smoggy, nasty 'hot blast from hell' wind...cold supper for us.

We are still waiting for summer here. Today's high was 22°C (72°F), and tomorrow is going to be 19°C (66°F). I did break out in a sweat reading lilly's report of getting stuck at the pool.
