Default Morsi wins

It is a sad day for civilized people everywhere who respect the right of religious freedom and hope for the separation of church and state ( which has been the case here in Egypt). A tragic day for Egypt with an Islamist now President.

The best we can hope for is the continued pressure on the MB and the muzzling of their agenda by the military. That will be the case as far as political and economic power is concerned but I fear that there will be no obstacles with the MB interfering with the religious practices of both moderate and secular ( there truly is such an animal) Muslims as well as the religious minorities.
This party - and they have stated as such- can and will rewrite personal status laws to conform to their own outlook of Islam.
I give them great credit in their continuous and energetic efforts in social reform so that is the only bright light which I can see today. The poor deserve a state that cares about them. That had not been the case. Which is one reason of course, why they won.

Mayerling, how does Morsi's election effect the peace between Egypt and Israel? Do you think there will be an increase in hostilities, and if so will the military go along with that?

I hope you and your family stay safe. These are troubling times.

They have said that they want the capital of the "United States of Arabia" to be Jerusalem. Need I say more?

The Presidency is a figurehead at this point in time. I strongly suspect that the US told SCAF to go ahead and have Morsi assume the presidency ( and I do believe that he did win honestly- unfortunately-) or they ( the US) would make good on their threat to withdraw military grants, loans etc.

Frankly, I would like to see that military aid scrapped entirely and have it go towards housing, agriculture and education. Then maybe all of the Egyptian people would understand what a representational republic is.

Take note, this is what a democracy will get you.

Thanks for your concern. Hopefully the Shafik people will stay calm and polite and not cause trouble.
