When I was told about the Jake from State Farm thing I just did the smile and nod. Honestly Jake was never a consideration. At first I was really really leaning toward Curious George or Georgie for short but that just didn't seem to fit.

I got an awesome screen capture today. He likes laying on his back and looking around at the world.

Thanks. It was down to my rear before I had it cut last month. I donated it to the organization that uses hair for oil spill clean up. Now it is a nice length to use my straightening iron.

So I did get the birdie backpack. Now I just need to find a stroller base for it and make some straps to hold it securely.

KC and the Sunshine band is doing a free concert here. If the weather cooperates I'll take Jake and we will go people watch. I also found an excellent spot to sit for concerts at the harbor. Its grassy, shaded, out of the way but still with a view and gets the breeze off the water.

We went to visit Jake today. It looks like he might be coming home next week. He learned his first word. He says woo. Many of the birds picked it up from someone in the boarding room. We observed today that Jake is a leftie and he favors things that are red. He clung to me when I went to put him back in his cage and he didn't want to let go. I am thrilled that he really wants to be with us but it was very hard to leave him there.

Oh how exciting! He'll keep you busy for the rest of your life! Get him one of those soft wooly cuddlers like a half blankie. They are so cute with those."Want the blankie" he will say like my DBs birdie did. Course he also rang like the phone, and had a cackle of a laugh that sounded exactly like my DSILs. Hysterical. Oh I'm so happy for you...

Jake came home yesterday. He is learning about his palace and the coffee table I converted into a play yard. He is a pig. He loves dried chili peppers, pumpkin seeds, carrots, radishes, cauliflower and his pellets. He constantly wants to be near us but does not trust the cat. The feeling is mutual there. The cat slinks past Jakes cage hoping not to be noticed. I think the cat remembers having her nose bitten by Isabelle.

I think one thing birds really enjoy is seeing how far they can fling things. I've watched a friends birds do that and Grandma's canary did the same thing. It's like with cats, they have to see how far they can fling the cat littler out of the pan.

Jake has been home for a few days now and is settling in nicely. Before he left the bird store he had a favorite toy on the play table, a simple red plastic bead with a hole in the center for stringing. It is a bit bigger than a plump fresh cherry. He wanted this bead so badly when ever he was out of his cage and on the play table that the store owner put it in the carrier and it came home with us. We have named it "Red Bead", original isn't it?

Adventures with Red Bead.
Jake will pick up Red Bead with either the upper or lower part of his beak in the hole and carry it around like a child with a lovie. You may have seen parrots shake their heads in either a yes or no motion. Jake hasn't learned the up and down of the yes motion but he does like the back and forth of the no motion and he does it quite vigorously while holding Red Bead. Now because of its size and that its made of slippery plastic Jake lost his bite on it and sent it flying like it was launched. It flew 3 feet and bounced off the tv stand making a loud noise that startled Jake making him jump and flap his wings like mad which in turn scared the cat who jumps and runs. The cat is trying to tear ass across the couch looking for some place to hide, the bird sees the cat run and is even more scared and has tried to take flight but has only managed to land on the floor. We are scrambling to get the bird, who is still flapping away so furiously that down feathers are flying, the cat is now on the floor in a panic and can't get out of the room without passing the evil bird so there is fur flying and she is doing the dig into the carpet run, the SO and I are each up and rounding opposite ends of the coffee table turned bird play gym to get the bird and keep the cat away. I don't know how we didn't step on someone or run into one another. Once I scooped up Jake and sat down I laughed until it hurt.

Yes, you may want to pick up a few red beads.

Even the little parrots are strong. Friends parrolet threw a wooden cherry at her when she was in front of his cage. Lucky for her the door was shut because it would have hit her right center of the face. As was it hit the door and then hit the back of the cage and then landed half way to the front. That cage was either 18 or 20 inches deep.

I have to send this story to the friend with parrolets. She will love it.

For some reason a lot of birds like the color red. Maybe because it's so bright?

I have read that most parrots can see color better than humans. Isabelle, the grandbirdie, hates the color red and even attacked my legs, growling biting and screaming, because I was wearing red track pants.
