Drove through Sweetwater ("The Wind Energy Capital Of Texas") last week. I felt like a character in "War of the Worlds"; the turbines are a lot closer to the road than pictures show, and there are many more of them. Mile after mile of the things, and they're huge. Farmland surrounds the bases, mostly irrigated cotton (except for those on the ridges, of course). Very few houses built close.

In northern Iowa, along HWY 69 there are a lot of these turbines. As far as the eye can see there they are. They look really odd rising up out of the corn and soybeans. The pay the farmers get helps them out a lot in times like this. A friends brother has a few on his farm.
