The most coolest, most fun, most frustrating thing I have ever done.

You need a small "backpack" fishing kit along with a small garden shovel to dig worms on the bank.

Nice kit! SO has several fishing rods - I'll cajole him into letting me ruin his 'worst' one...LOL

I figure I got a lot of learning to do before I catch anything other than accident panfish.

One of the best parts of this event for me was learning that every fish caught is released - Shimano had two pontoon boats modified to do live release. Lots of anglers were joking about following those boats to see where those big guys were being let loose. A local angler also has a boat set up to do this & volunteered it, for a total of three.

I had a look at the 'fish pens' where they were holding the bass before weight in - talk about an elaborate, 'fish friendly' set up - lots of circulating water, 'fish wranglers' keeping an eye on the fish & after every ten baskets weighed, the boats would head out to release. Apparently, there were very few losses. If any basket looked to have fish not doing so well, they were weighed in immediately so they could get on the next release run.

Anglers really DO work hard on conserving the stocks - especially of the big guys.

A lot of people I know think it's wasted time. Nonsense! It teaches patience & if you stay still, you get to see some neat stuff - critters slipping down to the water, pretty sun produced sparkles, ripples on the water, amphibians, lots of big fish swimming away from your hook...

It's a good way to sit & reflect. That's my story & I'm sticking to it.
