Having a group of "internet" friends that you've met in real life solves that problem. There are a few that not only know my name and address, but even have my cell number.
I haven't met anyone in RL...yet...but a few have my real name and cell.

Fart...pick who to trust and uncloak to them. You are one of my favs that I watch.

fb....that's a trip!

I think many of the online people I have read who are now gone, had family email or post to let people know but....someone like Banko...alone and then a fire to wipe it all out...if he had not told us who he was in RL, no one would know what happened.

It is kinda scary cuz this online stuff is so new but nice to know others do know who I am and would be able to let my cyber friends know.

One board of younger members actually tease each other to carry (and I bet some do actually) a "boardname deathcard" (yes, Fart, it's creepy too!)....it has the sign in name and password on it so people can log on if something happens so the online community is informed and not be left in the dark.

As long as the cookies weren't dumped, my kids would let you guys know if something fatal happened to me...eventually. DH wouldn't bother.

This is kind of important to me right now. I'm faced with doing this for my Mom soon. Her contacts are a bit more personal, email contacts from doing her family history research. We've had our own scares with a few people that way, not responding to multiple emails, only to find out later that they'd been in the hospital, or a family member was terminal, or one of those AND their computer was toast.

Quite the new quandry the interweb-thingy presents.

Sorry to hear about CS, I was kinda wondering, too... although I thought maybe someone had ticked her off or something...

A few people around here know how to get ahold of me, if they absolutely had to (CS I think is one of them, actually) and my e-mail account is starting to climb into the top 1 million or so longer-lived ones (OK, maybe 10 million! But I've had it 8 years now!) so it's not TOO difficult to find out about me, if something happened...

A doorbell rings somewhere in suburbia.
Housewife opens the door.
Youngster greets her, "Hi I am here on behalf of the such and such board - we have not seen so and so for x months and we were all wondering if he/she is okay?"
Housewife scratches her head, turns and opens the door to the basement and yells,"Grandma I think one of you friends is here!"

ok - someone else add a couple of lines to this story. . .

Called her the other day and chatted for a bit. I don't have much phone time, so I didn't get around to asking why she's not been online. She sounded pretty well though.

CS, I hope you are enjoying all of our deranged random associations.
