Default There's a first time for everything! :D

Excerpt:

Americans may enjoy teasing and taunting their neighbours to the north but now the jokes on them.

For the first time in recent history, the average Canadian is richer than the average American.

The net worth of the average Canadian household in 2011 was $363,202 compared to the average American household’s $319,970 worth, according to data published in Canada's Globe and Mail last month.

I'm shocked that the average on either side of the border is over $300k.

That includes real estate—the family home—as an asset. The reason Canadians have pulled ahead is that their real estate market didn't crash as hard as ours did.

Also, remember how much an average (the mean) is pulled out of whack by a few high numbers; if 99 people are broke and one is a billionaire, their average net worth is $10 million. I'll bet Vancouver actually skewed the number somewhat. Median would have been a better measure.

US median net worth: $77,300 in 2010, down from $126,400 in 2007. Again, real estate.
