Default March 2017 Homestead and Garden Thread

March has come in like a Lion here and last night was HOWLING! Lots of damage in the area but so far nothing here. I have friends who lost their barns in the night.

Today is Farm Day and between the flu and P who has a pine needle stuck in his throat (foragers ) it looks like it will be just V and I. Yesterday we did some sprucing up and moved some tractor implements/junk and equipment out of the circle in preparation for the big Meet and Greet Potluck. We're trying to gather associates, possible volunteers and potential instructors together for some showing off and brain storming. It should be a fun day but in the mean time we want to put our best foot forward.

Come on over! I'll bet there's something fun and exciting for you here on the farm

Meee Tooo!

It was a good day. Things really look nice. P had a chunk of what V and I think looks like cedar stuck in his throat. (some people's kids). There were a total of 7 folks who worked today. Isn't that something?? I helped V pull wire and put up electrical boxes in J's cabin. It will be good to get that show on the road. Speaking of J, she made some great progress in going through her stuff still left from her move here. It will be good to have use of the pole barn.

D is in big trouble though. She gave dad a box of chocolate...and he ate it all...and now after I finish my manhattan, I'm going to clean his bathroom.

The event went very well! We learned much about what we need to do to be ready for the big fund raiser in May.

The bread oven is coming along:

Don't wrestle with a pig. The pig enjoys it and you get muddy.

So, should we all hang out at BG's before or after the eclipse shindig at catbirds?

Today V and I wired receptacles in at J's cabin. Other than an overhead light we somehow missed and neither wanted to climb into the loft at the end of the day LOL, we are done. We'll catch that receptacle tomorrow at some point. J's cabin has electricity!!! Waaa Hooo!

Tomorrow we plan to work on the bread house. This next week will be focused on the things we need to get done most before V is gone back to the Rez for a while to take care of Biz. I'm quite sure the girls on his 'pie list' there are going to be happy he's home to take care of some of their wish lists LOL. They say "He is our best man and he is missed". I can truly understand and appreciate that!

This Wednesday Farm Day P and I moved some fence so the pigalation can begin in a new area. Pigs fed in the right places can do one bang up job of excavation!

Here are a couple of pics of V

The wood chip gods have spoken with 9 loads delivered and "Plenty more" coming. I'm giddy with excitement. LOL it doesn't take much does it?

Yesterday P and I decided where we want all this compost gold and the drivers (who also think this farm is pretty grand) have been most accommodating. So we've got them backing up and poking those loads in as many convenient places as we can manage. We'll use the chips and mulch and walkway material letting it compost and migrate into the system where ever possible. Trying to get gravity to help whenever we can.

D who is the business manager PA made a deal yesterday to buy out J. Things will be a little different in 30 days. We may finish and sell that tiny house for some working capital and then start another one in the same location. Chapters opening and closing everywhere!
