The Dreaded Closet Project

Over the last several years there has been a great deal of shuffling of stuff around here. The intent is to put like things in the same location where it can be found when needed. A couple of years ago we did an emergency shuffle and have never recovered. Its one of those situations where you have to find the head of the dragon so you can begin there. In the meantime, things that are destined for their new "home" get moved in that direction and at some point you have no choice but to begin the dreaded closet project.

Today I started going through clothes...why oh why do I have so many clothes??? Some of them are so old the elastic is falling apart LOL. Others, well, I'm eternally hopeful I'll fit in them again....someday. I'm such a dreamer.

Today's goal was to make room to be able to put all the clothes and shoes I own in ONE closet and make the other closet mostly storage and linen with plenty of room for Max to have his own closet space. So far so good! It still has a way to go but at least the process has begun and its long over due. I guess I'm grateful for the hot weather outside to inspire inside projects like this one. Sure will be much happier when its completed though LOL.

That sort of cleaning has emotional ambushes. Often we're not necessarily trying to throw out an ITEM but a hope or wish: "Maybe someday I'll fit into that." Just be aware of that.

I'm discovering that Sue. Its not so much about "I might be able to fit into that again" but more about "I wore that to my son's wedding or a martial arts tournament I excelled in". Fortunately, The elastic gives me a clue as to whether or not its time to let it go. I'm pretty steeled about the whole thing. The next step is to try on everything I've decided to "keep" and pass on what doesn't fit beautifully. I'm so tired of having too much stuff.

Yeah - the memory ones are harder. I recently & reluctantly threw out an old fall jacket brat #2 outgrew at twelve or thereabouts. I'e been wearing it ever since. Never mind the lining was frayed beyond belief & the zipper pull broke off two years ago.

IT WAS MY BABY'S JACKET!

And it was dandy for gardening. It hurt to get rid of it.

I still have a ghastly grey pullover fleece of Brian's - yeah Brian, the one you used to chew on...LOL. It's not worn enough for me to toss.

Good luck going through the clothes. Every time I get rid of some stuff it seems what's left gets bigger. Last time I took 6 large garbage bags full of clothes out of one closet and it's still full. I think they mate like wire hangers.

Another round starts today. It's a good thing to do since the temp is suppose to get up to 104 degrees...
