Sweet! Are they meant for pets or freezer camp?

It's ok Sue, I won't eat them. The only way I touch bunnies is to pet them. We had a huge black rabbit named Midnight that was the longest lived of her family, she even out lived her mother. She was a gift to my youngest DS and had a spoiled life. Lots of fresh greens, rabbit feed, petting and brushing. She was not fond of cat's, she hissed at them. She lived about 3 years and weighed 30lbs when she died of natural causes. I was told she was a California meat rabbit.

I have nothing against anyone who raises them for livestock, it's just not me, I'm not eating very much meat of any kind anymore.

My daughter breeds and shows them. This breed can be used as a meat breed, as they are on the larger size, but they were not bred for that intention (Although some of the very poorly marked males may end up going to the meat truck...).

ETA: Feather, either that was one huge Califorian (usually weigh in around 8-12 pounds), or more likely you had a Flemish giant which can weigh 20 lbs or more.

Wow - a Flemish Giant sounds like it would make a lot of rabbit pie.

I love bunnies, especially babies. And I'm more than fond of rabbit meat - it makes great pies, stews & other slow cooked meals. Thankfully, I don't have to be intimately aquainted with my food. I'd almost rather be though - they charge an outrageous amount for rabbit meat here.
