Exclamation AMAZON DOWN --- Appears limited?

No, the sky isn't falling but Amazon is a big chunk of the web....... MODS, please move if needs be.

Amazon’s web servers are down and it’s causing trouble across the internet

Amazon’s web hosting services are among the most widely used out there, which means that when Amazon’s servers goes down, a lot of things go down with them. That appears to be happening today, with Amazon reporting “high error rates” in one region of its S3 web services, and a number of services going offline because of it.

Trello, Quora, IFTTT, and Splitwise all appear to be offline, as are websites built with the site-creation service Wix; GroupMe seems to be unable to load assets (The Verge’s own image system, which relies on Amazon, is also down); and Alexa is struggling to stay online, too. Nest’s app was unable to connect to thermostats and other devices for a period of time as well.

Isitdownrightnow.com also appears to be down as a result of the outage.

Amazon has suffered brief outages before that have knocked offline services including Instagram, Vine, and IMDb. There don’t appear to be any truly huge names impacted by this outage so far, but as always, its effects are widespread due to just how many services — especially smaller ones — rely on Amazon.

There’s no estimate on when service will be restored, but Amazon says it is “actively working on remediating the issue.”

Just tried Amazon myself and it's working. So either the outage is sporadic or affecting only certain areas?

AWS is down. AWS health checks are run in AWS, and since it is down they all show OK. http://www.istdownrightnow.com is also run on AWS, so they are down too.

Put all your eggs in one basket, then drop the basket.

I know......... Seems fine for me, too.

But hte Banner at Druge was : AMAZON OFF

Then there's this article: So it seems the Amazon Cloud is what's having issues?

It’s not just you: Massive internet outage is sweeping the East Coast

If it seems like your internet browsing is hitting more walls than possible today, you’ll be happy to know that it’s not your computer. A massive Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage is striking down lots and lots of web pages, leading to huge hiccups on a number of domains. Amazon is reporting the issue on its AWS dashboard, citing “Increased Error Rates,” which is a fancy way of saying that something is seriously broken.

Amazon Web Services is the cloud services arm of Amazon, and its Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) is used by everyone from Netflix to Reddit. When it goes down — or experiences any type of increased latency or errors — it causes major issues downstream, preventing content from loading on web pages and causing requests to fail.

“We’ve identified the issue as high error rates with S3 in US-EAST-1,” Amazon explains on its services tracking page, adding that the issue “is also impacting applications and services dependent on S3. We are actively working on remediating the issue.”

These instances are always a great reminder of how much of the internet relies on just a handful of huge companies to keep it up and running. An issue with Amazon’s S3 service creates a problem for countless websites that rely on their storage product to be up and running every second of the day. Unfortunately, there’s always ghosts in the machine, and downtime is inevitable. Let’s all pray that Amazon gets everything sorted out in short order.

Amazon says that a typo knocked it offline.

http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-39151932

Amazon has said that a simple typo was the cause of several high-profile websites and services being knocked offline earlier in the week.
Hours of problems struck services like Q&A forum Quora, and Giphy, an image hosting service.
The sites rely on hosting provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS) - a cloud computing provider.
A typo made during a routine debugging of the AWS billing system caused the failure.
