Default Trayvon High on DXM?

You know that bag of skittles and can of watermelon ice tea found on Trayvon Martin after he was shot? Turns out those are two of three ingredients (the third being Robitussin DM) that makes a powerful drug called "Lean" or "DXM".

Trayvon's Facebook page shows him talking about DXM. Apparently he has been using it for over a year. DXM can cause liver damage - which was shown in Trayvon's autopsy. Erowid.org lists "6 DXM Side Effects and Other Things to Avoid" and states it can cause psychotic breaks:

“…Be very careful in trying to restrain the tripper, since she or he may perceive this as a threat, and will probably be mostly immune to pain...the tripper, like a cornered animal, could beat the living shit out of you without thinking twice. (!!) …”

It is all laid out here. This is absolutely going to sink the Prosecution. I cannot see how they will prevail against this information:

Ah...it's called "DXM," not "DMX," short for Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide.

MH, fixed. Sorry about that.

Sonny, go to the link. There are two ABC videos embedded on the page (towards the bottom) that show Trayvon in the 7-11 from two different angles.

No report that the autopsy found evidence of the drug's presence in his system?

If not, it's all circumstantial. Because he was known to take it does not mean he was taking it that evening.

linttrap, the article speculated about traces of the drug showing up in an autopsy. What I understand is, a normal autopsy would not test for DMX but the coroner may have held a blood sample in reserve that could be sent for further testing.

Another point, since he had Skittles and Watermelon ice tea ON him, wouldn't that indicate he had not yet taken the stuff? Or, another possibility is he takes it constantly (some addicts use 8 oz of Robitussin every day) and had to go out for more supplies.

As my misspelling of the drug might indicate, I don't know anything about the drug or its effect on people... but that web site presents a mighty convincing case.

Article claims to have confirmed him talking about this for over a year. Given that it's causing both mental and physical changes that last beyond the high, I don't think it matters if he was not immediately on the drug during the resupply run.

I think so too. This is quite a change in the story.
If it's comparable to angel dust it's nasty stuff.

Also he took his time walking back from the store so he might have used some in the meantime but that's speculation until there are results from a test.

I'll bet the company lawyers for Skittles and Arizona Iced Tea are frothing at the mouth hoping the attorneys present the case that having these items in his possession implies drug use.

They will be on that with a billion dollar lawsuit before they can get the whole sentence out of their mouths.

If history is any indication, we'll have to present ID whenever buying skittles or ice tea, and then write our name into a book, and then sign a document swearing we won't use them to make drugs.

I'm not a chemist, but other than the codeine in the cough syrup, I can't imagine that having any kind of effect. What do they think the ice tea and Skittles do in combination with the codeine?

The iced tea and skittles are to make it better tasting. In this case there would be no codeine, only Dextromethorphan.

From wiki about Dextromethorphan.

DXM is also used recreationally. When exceeding label-specified maximum dosages, dextromethorphan acts as a dissociative hallucinogen.

Just an FYI. Skittles is also slang for Coricidin pills. They're used (abused) on their own, or in conjunction with DXM or promethiazine or codiene syrup.

So some of what people read online that refers to skittles is because the candy is used to flavor and color the cough syrup being used. But some online discussion of skittles is actually about using Coricidin.

Now that that is clear as mud...
