DSs and DW have had seasonal flu shots so the other virus is unlikely a flu variant.vthe symptoms are too harsh for "common cold" therefore there is no such thing as "another virus"

Oric, I have been using the vick's rub on her feet. Well actually just one foot, the other is a mixture of essential oils tea tree oregano and the thieves oil blend I made up. I also put the oils on her chest, cover the feet with socks. It did calm down a spell of coughing she had last night.

We also bought mullein which lots on here said worked but that didn't work at all for her. The cough is not a deep one, more of an aggravating tickle dry cough.

For cough with any nasal discharge or postnasal drip I suggest gargling with saline (1 teaspoon/cup) and nasal saline spray or neti pot use (1/2 teaspoon/cup) mixed with warm water.

Also tea with honey helps. I find cough drops help at first, but too many per day seem to dry the throat and make coughs worse.

Decrease anything else that might be irritating the respiratory system; vacuum with a hepa-filtered bag and wash the sheets in really hot water to remove dust mites and their leavings. Keep the windows closed if the pollen count is high. Ban pets from the bedroom temporarily. Be sure to use an exhaust fan when cooking.

A prescribed inhaled steroid may also be necessary.
