Default Want your child to do well at school? Eat dinners as a family

Family is made around the dinner table.

Chance favors the prepared mind.

Don't wrestle with a pig. The pig enjoys it and you get muddy.

Children should be involved in prep and cleanup as well.

To dream the impossible dream in this day and age, when mama and papa work rotating shifts. These days, kids are doing great to get a warm meal once a day.
There are always dozens of reasons why something "can't" be done. That's no excuse in my book. If you want it bad enough, you find a way. That's how life works for grown ups. -- Booger

Dinner together daily until the kids had jobs that they worked through dinner. Still do it together most nights. It's our catch-up, what happened during your day time. Jokes and barbs fly fast and furious, lots of laughing.

DH's BIL was here a few years ago, staying with us to scope out the city to move the family to. He asked if dinner was always like that...meaning everyone talked and joked while they ate. He seemed incredulous that the kids were allowed to do so. They would have been about 15 and 12 at the time. It sounded like no one was allowed to speak at dinner in his experience. Sad.

Dinner time is the emotional highlight of our day as a family.
