Two children being tested for Ebola & Malaria in the RVI Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-30241284

There is very little information known (being released) about the children at this time, such as were their were in Africa and how long they have been in the UK.

Its a bit close to home for me as the RVI is my local hospital. about 18 miles away. The Government designated it one of their Ebola centres.

According to The Telegraph, the results of the tests are due sometime this afternoon.

Two children tested for ebola in Newcastle

The BBC report, last updated 3 hours ago, says the results are due "later Friday".

So there should be some type of announcement soon.

Update on Italian doctor evacuated from Sierra Leone.

Quote:
Ebola patient's condition 'worse'

Emergency doctor in treatment has high fever, profound fatigue

Redazione ANSA ROME
01 December 2014 14:36

(ANSA) - Rome, December 1 - The general condition of the Italian doctor who contracted Ebola in Sierra Leone "has deteriorated slightly," Rome's Spallanzani Institute for infectious diseases said on Monday. Spallanzani doctors said the patient continued to have "high fever, profound fatigue and widespread skin eruptions". The patient is a 50-year-old doctor who returned to Italy last week after contracted the deadly virus while working for medical-aid NGO Emergency.

The Rome clinic stressed that there were many positives about the man's condition, too.

These included him being self-sufficient, breathing autonomously and having normal kidney functioning.

Ebola-stricken doctor develops new fever

Health-care team says his condition 'challenging'

(ANSA) - Rome, December 4 - The Italian doctor who contracted Ebola while fighting the epidemic in Sierra Leone has developed a new fever - a worrying condition, specialists at Rome's Spallanzani Institute for Infectious Diseases said Thursday. The 50-year-old man's condition presents "a challenging clinical picture," said his treatment team. They described the patient as attentive, interacting with his health professionals.

Wonder if he's picked up a secondary? Conventional wisdom has it that, once you start improving, you continue to improve - from Ebola virus. Relapses have not been describved in the published literature nor in any anecdotal way of which I'm aware.

Be curious to see what they find here.

American nurse exposed to Ebola to be admitted to NIH centre

PUBLISHED ON DEC 11, 2014 11:39 PM

NEW YORK (REUTERS) - An American nurse who was exposed to Ebola while volunteering in an Ebola treatment unit in Sierra Leone will be admitted to the National Institutes of Health's Clinical Centre in Maryland on Thursday, NIH announced.

The centre is one of 35 designated as an Ebola treatment center earlier this month by the US government, and previously treated a nurse who contracted Ebola in Texas.

NIH did not release any further information on the nurse, including when he or she might have been exposed to the virus, current medical condition or affiliation.

The patient will be admitted "for observation and to enroll in a clinical protocol," NIH said in a statement.

Potential patient after exposure - now THAT bears studying. Get her here & run basic lab panels. Rinse & repeat. I most decidedly do NOT want the hurse or anyone else coming down with Ebola but if there's a possibility... what an excellent opportunity to look at the "pre-clinical" picture of the evolution of early stage disease.

I'm thinking healthcare professional. TV news stated patient was picked up at home by ambulance, suited up attendants. Clearly someone knew protocol, I'd say patient.

I'm hoping it's crossed wires - 2 in the same day, in the same area would be almost impossible to believe.

Looking like ”crossed wires" and there is only one suspected case. The concern now is Llandudno is a seaside holiday resort, popular at this time of year with both those wanting the usual beach entertainment as well as walkers and climbers using the Snowdonia national park.
