Unhappy No more cursive writing in schools

I am constantly astounded by the latest ideas coming out of schools. Not too long ago, I thought I was reading something from "The Onion," but it was real. Cursive writing will no longer be taught in schools, and may even be tadeled. Apparently this isn't even new news, as an article from 2013 shows.

Finnland is even changing over to teaching typing instead of cursive.

No, not new news. None of my grandkids were taught cursive, and I'm a bit hazy as to whether my kids were. I never use cursive myself -- I can't read my own writing! If I want it legible, I print or type.

Learning good keyboard skills is far more important than cursive script.

Mouse, I battled my kids' schools for years over this. And lost. Sad to hear it's not just North America.

I bought penmanship books and taught my kids cursive when the Mexican schools they were in didn't. The only cursive taught there is your signature.

For Mother's Day, DS gave me a beautiful blank journal. He wants me to use it to write thoughts, and pearls of wisdom and so forth and then he'll give it to GS when he turns 18.

I'm not sure that I have a lot of wisdom to pass on. But the first, and only, thing I've written so far is: "By the time you receive this journal, you probably won't be able to read it."

How can people get around not knowing how to use a buggy whip?

Hell, you can't hardly get a buggy whip these days.

Sometimes actually writing something on a piece of appear is a necessary and cursive is so much faster and easier---it seems like even a bit of basic instruction would be in order.
