Default America's last great ocean liner is saved from the scrap heap

http://SS United States, favored by ...illion project
Quote:
The SS United States boasted four US presidents, Hollywood royalty and real royalty among its many passengers
Launched in 1952 after a secret Cold War project to build the world's fastest ship, she became an American icon
But the liner was retired in the late 1960s after carrying a million passengers, due to the rise in popularity of flying
The ship, which is bigger than Titanic, has spent the last two decades rusting in Philadelphia's Delaware River
Now Crystal Cruises have offered to buy SS and fit her out as a 'modern luxury vessel' which could cost $800m

It's not a done deal yet. They still have to do the feasibility study to determine if it's economically viable.

If they do bring her back I would love to go on a cruise aboard her.
