Default Request for advice on places to see Scotland, Ireland (Dublin based)

We fly into Dublin, and out of Glasgow. We will need to be in St. Andrews two days mid-trip.

Any recommendations on places to go in mid-July appreciated.

I have under Edinburgh on the list, but that's all at this point. Loch Ness is not on that list.

RB - For Scotland, I have two questions: Do you like hiking? Do you like drinking scotch? If so, Skye and Islay can't be missed. Climbing Ben Nevis is also a kick, and you can hit the "Highlander" castle on the drive between Skye and Fort Williams. Make sure to bring midge net if you are going to hike in the Highlands in mid-summer, though.

Yes, and sometimes. Thanks for the tips.

Midge net? Are those extra-tiny flies that bite and the bite burns (Ontario's sand flies)?

They are worse than sand flies. The nastiest part for me was when thousands of them got on my scalp and started nibbling. I have very thick hair so it was particularly bad.

+10 on midge nets and repellent ( there is a midge museum in Edinburgh).

From Edinburgh head up the A9 to Inverness then down A82 to Fort William then into Glasgow.

This takes in the best bits, the highlands and lochs as well as setting you up for the distilaries.
