total deaths are up a lot in week 01 , see above
maybe this is partly due to delayed reports over the holidays.
However we didn't see it that extremely in previous years

the P+I ratio is also up, so parts (or all ?) of that increase in total
deaths is due to the flu-wave

[charts and data by region probably later by just editing this post...]

I have to bump this, because it's falling out of my site of subcribed threats
for my weekly updates

it's also important - not because of flu-related deaths or the ratio,
but because of the increase in total US-deaths that we see since
about 1 year and there are some signs that the decrease of cardiovascular
deaths in the elderly (since ~1970) is reversing.

We have a dramatic increase in cardiovascular deaths in Eastern Europe
and Russia since ~1990 (but decrease in Western Europe, so where
does it go ?)

while rare in 19th century, meanwhile roughly 50% of deaths are
from circulatory/cardiovascular causes

[I should update the charts ...]

The unintended effects of capitalism in the East, and a concerted effort to eat "heart healthy" in the West??

I think the increase/decrease should be more sudden if it were
political

I meant the increase was relative to USA, 65-80y, in % of all deaths
Now I read that there was a decrease 45-74y deaths per 100000 population
see the wine thread

here is the chart comparing to Hungary (which has data since 1955
and is somehow between East and West)

Spain+France
Germany+Austria+Slovenia
Czech,Poland,Hungary
Russia,Ukraine,
Turkm.Kazakh.Kyrgy,Uzbek

http://magictour.free.fr/~EE00.GIF

see e.g. the ratio of Bulgaria (eBul) vs. USA here:
http://magictour.free.fr/~a02ee.GIF
there is an almost linear increase (or decrease for USA) 1965-2010

preliminary deaths last 4 seasons:

the elderly ratio shows mainly the excess deaths from
cardiovascular causes

the P+I-ratio shows the severety of the flu-season,
H3 is worse here than H1

MA13m: "moving average" average of that week and the
6 previous weeks and the 6 following weeks

the official final data for 2011-2013 are already available,
see the mortality thread. But only monthly, not weekly as above.
I added the official final data to the chart above
so we can compare how good the preliminary (urban) data was.

new NCHS-series : Quarterly Provisional Estimates
http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/vsrr.htm
http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/vsr...-dashboard.htm
as of June 21, 2015,

Suggested citation
National Center for Health Statistics. Quarterly provisional estimates for selected
causes of death: United States, 2014–Quarter 1, 2015. National Vital Statistics System,
Vital Statistics Rapid Release Program. 2015.

I can't get their chart, nor can I download that .csv file
trying AOL,K-melion,firefox

they give heart deathrates for quarters 1/2014-1/2015 :

hea,cr,1906,1909,1911,1927,1956,1966,1977,1958,194 0
hea,aa,1665,1665,1661,1670,1686,1691,1696,1672,164 7

[updated 2013...2016)

cer,cr,404,405,409,417,425
cer,aa,356,357,359,363,369

diabetes,alzheimer also slowly increasing

I can't find all-causes

so it seems that heart deathrates had a low in quarter 2/2014 and are
increasing again since then.
That could be the reason why the weekly 122-cities deaths are
usually higher than the previous year.
These trends often last for decades ...

Death Rates Rising for Middle-Aged White Americans

not from
heart disease and diabetes

but
epidemic of suicides
afflictions stemming from substance abuse
alcoholic liver disease
overdoses of heroin and prescription opioids.

http://magictour.free.fr/W1990A.GIF

=============================================

the weekly MMWR-data suggest increasing total deaths since
about two years.
Weekly ONS-data for Britain had increasing deaths since about 1 year

but it could just be the baby-boom, I'm not sure

males 50-69,circulatory deathrate USA, 1990-2013:
http://magictour.free.fr/cm50-70.GIF
bottom reached ? trend reversal ?

England has already the data for 2014.
There the circulatory deathrates go sidewards
in the 35-64 year old age groups in 2013 and 2014,
after a downtrend since 1975

this is discontinued at CDC-wonder, see post 1

the chart at
http://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/weekly...HS46_small.gif

shows a strange decline this year since week 30 in the P+I - ratio,
I don't know yet , why.

maybe a changed definition of what qualifies as pneumonia/influenza death
or maybe a real decline in pneumonia deaths ?
