Thats a slippery question. one that I had never considered until I read the 2005 or 2006, report by the cdc on the economic impact of pandemic influenza, and I know I have it bookmarked on the other PC. The mistake they made in that study is, excuse me, The point where I disagree with the findings of their study, is in the calculated economic loss when a person over the age of 65 dies. (it's not a loss, no it's actually a big net savings...)
