Default Argh! DD is sick again...

Sudden onset of fever, very sore throat, body aches... Fever is lower than with the flu in September, no ups and downs so far. Steady at 101F. Had her tested for strep (they have 7 cases in her class) and it was negative. I am treating it like it is the flu again. The good news is she is not throwing up this time. I still think it is strep but by the time they retest she might be all better... Bring out the elderberry again!!

Wanted to add that DD is acting like her sickness is not a big deal (thank God!!), and I have not treated her fever... I am hoping she recovers quickly and whatever it is does not get passed around the house...

Did they test the other kids for H1N1? My son had both at the same time.

No testing for swine flu around here, and for now DD is the only one sick. My throat is hurting today but it feels like a bad cold more than strep. Younger DS just got his second dose of the H1N1 today... I believe all 3 older ones had the swine flu in September with fever and very severe presentations so I am hoping they are somewhat immune. If what DD has now is swine flu again, it is a lot milder for her the second time around...

The second timer club.

We have it very mild 2, but keep following the symptoms, I am a optimist by nature but with Swine Flu even a mild second time around am keeping an eye out for complications that could arise, for a week or 2 after symptoms, hope not, belive not, but just in case.

Get yourselfs all better soon

It's amazing how many people are getting this for a second time.

I wonder....has anyone heard of people getting it after getting the vaccine?

I hope your DD only has a mild case second time around.

I'm increasingly frustrated by this. Are the first bouts swine flu? How about the second bout of illness? Both? Neither?

How in Hades are people supposed to make rational decisions about vax when there's no testing, symptoms are all over the place & multiple bouts of 'whatever' can share some but not symptoms & severity of those.

I'm not howling at the medical system or anyone at all - just thumping the wall in overall frustration. You'd think, 90 years after Spanish Flu, we'd have an easier time with all of this.

Nope.

And to add to the confusion, like many novel strains, this one has a revised script it didn't share in advance of filming.

I am frustrated too, Sue. This is ridiculous... the lack of testing is just too much. Not knowing one way or another...

Anyway, DD has an incredibly runny nose and is coughing up a storm. Hope it subsides tomorrow! Second day of no fever. I will be tiptoeing through the next few days....

I am so sorry your kids and you are having to go through all this *again*. But there is more in the news all the time about people suffering a second go round with this stuff.

Prayers are going up for you and yours. HUGS!!

Thanks so much, everyone!! We are all chugging elderberry now... My observation so far are that the second time the fevers in the kids are not as high and they are not as tired... There is a lot more coughing and serious congestion--symptoms missing the first go around.

Lingering cough, but other than that, fingers crossed, things are OK. I am having a mild case of it but with rest, elderberry and oregano oil, things are better.

Speculation is that mutation D225G can allow the virus to evade the vaccine!!

http://www.examiner.com/x-29228-LA-H...rrhaging-virus

If that turns out to be the case, it's possible that D225G allows the virus to evade NATURAL IMMUNITY as well.

There have been mild cases of infection with D225G carrying virus in the U.S., as well as the more severe cases noted from around the world.

Maybe it's possible that the virus HAS indeed avoided our immune response and is causing second infectins.

Specualtion..,

What IS the definition of a NEW pandemic virus anyway? One the evades our previous immunities (natural and vaccine conferred) and cause wodespread disease. Are we seeing the evolution of another NOVEL 2009 H1N1 variant?

I am wondering if this is what it is... DS ended up with albuterol and a Z-pack after his cough got worse last night. Hopefully this will do the trick! Certainly this round of flu made it into his lungs and quickly too. And he was taking all the herbals I could think of too. The doc said his ears, tonsils and lungs were all infected...
